SOUTHERN REGION SHOW Portsmouth
10 November 2002
Judges Report: Stephen Helmore
My first thoughts are to thank those that attended
the show, especially the dependable stalwarts for setting up and
running the show. A combination of reduced membership and a glorious
Indian summer left me with only 45 chinchillas to judge. Very few
chins were in show condition, the adults being very much out of
condition.
There was only one class in each of the standard groups
and no colour phasing was required. Four young females were led
by a large, albeit not in show condition quality chinchilla of Heather
and Steve Boncey that was Best Young Standard,
Best Standard and Reserve Show Champion.
2nd in the group was a pale medium young female from Heather and
Dick Green. Five young males again had a 1st and 2nd with a good
clear bright young male from Lyn and Ron Gardner having the better
of the Green's young male.
The five adult animals exhibited produced only one worthy ribbon,
a 1st, to an adult female of good size and colour from the Boncey's
which became Reserve Best Standard.
The young mutations produced some nice promising chins.
The beiges having a 1st from the Gardner's and 2nd from the Boncey's
of contrasting types. The 1st being larger with silky fur, having
the edge on the day from a smaller, very bright but lighter colour
beige. The violet class 1st ribbon from the Green's was a good sized
full necked chin that became Best Young Mutation
and Reserve Mutation in show. The ultra
violets showed promise with 2nd to the Gardner's. The AOC had a
1st and 2nd of Wilson whites. The1st of the Gardner's was clear
and bright compared to the blockier 2nd from the Boncey's. Lyn and
Ron Gardner also had a 1st with an Ebony self black with very good
all round coverage, but slightly narrow in confirmation.
Adult mutations were also very much out of condition except for
one. An exceptional large blocky, full necked violet from Debbie
Cave that became best mutation and show champion. STEPHEN
