NORTH REGION SHOW Birdwell 10 November 2002
Judges Report: Paul Spooner
A reasonable turnout of 70+ animals were waiting
for me when I judged the above show. Eddie Crutchley had suggested
a change from the usual format by judging the mutations first, which
I was happy to agree with, can't think why we don't do this more
often!
Starting the young mutations with an AOC class Joan
Davies took 2nd and 3rd ribbons with two pink whites the best of
which had open but strong fur. In the young beige class 1st ribbon
went to Joyce Garvey's 4½ month animal, blocky with open fur
but in good show condition and going on to take reserve young mutation.
The black velvets produced only one ribbon winner a 1st for Eddie
Crutchley. Blocky, good clarity, tight fur and good coverage, that
will doubtless improve as the animal gets older, going on to take
Best Young Mutation and Reserve Mutation.
The Adult Mutations produced only two animals worthy
of 1st ribbons. Sue Nelson's black velvet, big, blocky with good
clarity and strong fur, going on to take Best Mutation and eventually
Show Champion and Mrs Graves brown velvet, slightly down in clarity
open furred but good conformation going on to take Reserve Adult
Mutation.
Onto the standards and the young females were split
into two colour phases, the medium dark's producing a 1st ribbon
for Aileen Cooke with an animal of good size and fur type but slightly
tinged going on to take Best Young Female, Reserve Young Standard
and Reserve Best Standard. The medium females produced a 1st for
Eddie Crutchley with an animal of good size, conformation and clarity
going on to take Reserve Young Standard Female.
The Young Standard males were again split into two
colour phases only the medium darks producing a 1st ribbon for Eddie
Crutchley with an animal of good size, conformation, coverage and
clarity not quite in full prime but good enough to go on to take
Best Young Standard Male, Best Young Standard. Best Standard and
Reserve Show Champion. The Adult Females produced a 1st ribbon and
Reserve Best Adult Standard for Joyce Garvey with a big, blocky
animal with good clarity and fur type. The Adult males produced
two 1st ribbons, Eddie Crutchley's having good size and conformation
and taking Best Adult Standard and Joyce Garvey's having good size
and clarity taking reserve Adult Standard Male.
